Registrations for the Besançon International Competition for Young Conductors have just set a record with about 220 candidates registered in 24 hours, despite the current health context.
The three European cities of Paris, Berlin and Besançon are already complete for the preliminary rounds. Only Beijing and Montreal still have a few places left.

Open on Monday, January 25 at 10 am, registrations were quickly taken by storm: Paris closed first (around 8 pm Monday evening), quickly followed by Berlin in the evening, then Besançon in the early morning of Tuesday, January 26.
While registrations in Beijing and Montreal were slower, less than half of the places available in these two cities remain, 24 places in total.

This year, due to the pandemic, we had postponed the opening of registrations by almost two months. It is also the first time that a pre-selection session in Paris has been organized.

Who are the first 2021 candidates?

  • European candidates are the most represented among the first registered, with more than 60%; 39 French candidates are among the Europeans.
  • Next come the Asian candidates (25%), then the Americans candidates (12%).
  • Women represent 23% of the first candidates registered.

International selections and health crisis

The organization of the Competition remains subject to the evolution of the pandemic and to the regulations of each partner country for the preliminary rounds (closed borders, limited activity or closed conservatories, sanitary constraints…)

In case of total cancellation of the Competition before the preliminary rounds or if candidates are unable to travel due to pandemic-related travel restrictions, the registration fees will be refunded.
